Meet Pete

Pete Malicki is a globally successful writer, maverick producer and senior leader in the arts. He is a passionate advocate for creatives, using leadership positions and his own initiatives to help countless new and independent artists reach the next stage of their career through participatory opportunities, education and professional development.

As a writer, Pete has won scores of awards in film and theatre, with thousands of performances of his work in 50+ countries. He specialises in writing monologues and his scripts have been personally endorsed by an Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee. On top of this, he’s worked on close to 50 published books as an author, editor or other contributor and had articles published in major newspapers and magazines. His work has reached millions globally.

As a leader, Pete has helped artists thrive in countless ways, including through the creation of over 11,000 opportunities to directly participate in the industry (as actors, writers, directors, dancers, comedians, magicians etc.) He’s run over 30 festivals/seasons as an Artistic Director, earned a world record for producing the longest ever 10-minute play festival (Short+Sweet Sydney 2012 — 86 days) and set up acting showcase World Monologue Games which is often described by the media as “the Olympics for actors.” Pete is passionate about helping others develop sustainable, long-term careers and has run over 100 courses and workshops (on 126 different topics!), and offered professional development coaching or consultancy for over 120 individuals and organisations.

Writer, filmmaker + director

Pete began his creative career as a novelist, writing five fiction books before shifting his focus to theatre. He quickly became one of the world's most produced writers of short plays, with more than 1,300 productions of his work in 30+ countries, and is known internationally as a leading monologue specialist.

At the same time, he began directing and producing, taking on major stage plays as well as film and animation projects.

Pete has won 40 major awards for his plays, short films and animations. He is currently working on Bad Powers, a cartoon series, collaborating with ex-Disney animators and one of the world's most popular YouTubers.

Producer + arts business leader

After almost a decade as a fiction author and playwright, Pete began working as a producer. He took over the running of a community event, then shortly thereafter became the Festival Director of the world's largest 10-minute play festival, Short+Sweet Sydney.

Pete went on to produce not only theatre but dance, cabaret, magic, film, choir and comedy. He runs regular workshops in creative writing, theatre and acting. With a parallel career in corporate project management, Pete began to use his professional skills to set up arts organisations.

He set up significant international acting event World Monologue Games which has platformed 1,000+ performers from 85 countries, received over 200 media stories in 22 countries and had livestream events viewed over half a million times.

He is the Founder and Lead Facilitator of the Creative Industries Future Leaders Incubator (CIFLI), a leadership training program for those seeking financial sustainability in the arts through setting up innovative businesses. He also offers coaching and consultancy services for creative artists and organisations.
